Get key copies that work at McGuire Lock!

Key copiesHave you been to every hardware store in town and realized that it’s nearly impossible to get decent key copies?  Do you have a ‘Lucky Hardware Store’ that seems to get it right a little more often than the rest? If so, you’re not alone.  People pile into our shop every day, all day to get copies of their keys.  I can always tell a first time customer because they say they have been everywhere and seem really skeptical on the keys working when they get home. Customers that have been to our shop before have the comfort of knowing that our keys work right… THE FIRST TIME!

Try to remember the last trip to the hardware store to get some key copies of your house or business key. Think of these things for me really fast:

  1. How long did the whole process take to get your key copies?
  2. Did the key fit in to the lock?
  3. Did it work?  And if so how well?

Now watch this video. This is a VERY short video showing the entire key cutting  process start to finish.

The next time you need a house key copied, where are you going to go?  See you soon.

We are located at 31st and Broadway in the Penntower building. We have a mail room where we pick up our mail. We only have one key that says do not duplicate, I really hate asking this because it should be self explanatory, but can we get a duplicate copy. I would like to keep a key on my keychain, and also leave a key in the office.
Please let me know if this is possible.
    Thank you,

Sorry for the late reply! There are three kinds of Do Not Duplicate keys. The first is a regular every day key with a square head that has ‘Do Not Duplicate’ stamped in the head as a bluff which means nothing. We can copy these keys with no issue. The second is a key that is patent protected and the distribution is restricted. This means that aftermarket key manufacturers like ones found at Walmart or other big box stores cannot remake or sell the key blank. You would need to take it to the locksmith that sold you the locks and original keys and you will likely need to be on a list to get these keys made. Lastly, the third type of Do Not Duplicate keys are just like the second type but have an expired patent. These keys are open to be copied and the blanks are buyable by most any locksmith IF the key is popular enough to be reproduced.

I hope this answer didn’t seem long winded but it was a bit of a loaded question! If you could send us a clear picture of your key (front and back) we could tell you if we could make copies of your key for you. Our Email is found on our Contact page, or just call or swing by our shop and we can let you know right away! (816) 454-2552. Thanks for asking a great question.
